Comparing Cottages to Rent

When searching for your cottage holiday home you will find that there will be a number of common criteria that may well help you draw up a shortlist from which you can then make your selection. These criteria will include such things as number of people that can be accommodated, bathroom facilities, kitchen and laundry utilities that are included, TV, & video provision, internet access, available parking for a car or cars, supply of bed linen and towels etc, nearest beach, tourist sights, local activities, shops and pub, whether or not pets are allowed, and any other factors that might influence your decision to choose a particular holiday let. You will want to know whether or not a car will be an essential, whether or not there is a garden or swimming pool, and importantly, where there might be hidden extra costs like fuel and electricity. As with any family holiday accommodation, the sensible person will take time to compare and contrast those properties that they are interested in booking. Obviously, the more costly the terms of the hire, the more you can usually expect for your money. Costs can range from less than £100 for a short break for 2 people to several thousands for a greater number of people in luxury accommodation. The choice is yours!

When considering and comparing various cottages to rent it should be remembered that rental prices will be on a sliding scale related to the seasonal differences in popularity, to the duration of the vacation and, occasionally, to how many people will actually be staying. There are usually offers, both in and out of season, for short weekend breaks (2 or 3 nights) and mid-week breaks of 4 nights which can be financially very attractive for spur of the moment, last-minute, bookings or get-away-from-it breaks to re-charge the batteries. Any comparison of rental rates, facilities and amenities should be done with 'like-for-like' cottage properties and holiday dates.

There can be a list of things that you can do in the cottage and things that you can't. This may seem a bit off-putting at first but, when looked at carefully, are usually just common sense designed to ensure that everyone who stays in the holiday home enjoy a pleasant and hassle-free trip. Those houses or cottages which appear to have the greater number of restrictions are those to be rented from the National Trust, and with good reasons. The Trust offers the privilege of accommodation, often in listed buildings or those of greater historical importance, and expects that these properties are treated with the respect that they deserve. In return for these minor restrictions visitors can enjoy living, for a short time, in homes that our ancestors once lived or worked in.
